wavelength

Wave:   A pattern of travelling energy like light or sound.

Wavelength:  The distance between two identical peaks crests(high points) to troughs(low points).
It is commonly designed by Greek letter lambda.

 Equation of wavelength:  Wavelength is inversely proportional to frequency with a constant speed.
                                                                                  λ  = v/f.

Types of waves:

Longitudinal waves:  The displacement of medium is parallel to the wave.

Transverse waves:  The displacement of medium is perpendicular to the wave.

Electromagnetic waves:  It consists of both electric and magnetic waves.
They can travel without a medium.
It doesn't need a fluid, solid or even air to help them to travel from one place to another place.
We can see light from distant stars and planets.
They can vary from very long radio waves to very short gamma waves.

Wavelength division multiplexing:  It uses a single fiber to transmit the different multiple optical signals.
It does this by breaking up the signals into different wavelengths of color.

Working of wavelength division multiplexing:  It contains multiplexer and demultiplexer.

Application:  Data and image compression.
Pattern recognition.
Text analysis.
