BIOS:
Basic input output system.
Program used to get computer system started when you turn it on.
Managed to flow between OS and attached devices.

How computer is used to start?
BIOS first determines whether all the attachments are in place.
Loads OS into computer RAM from your hard disk.

Who invented BIOS?
Gary kildall.

How does a computer BIOS work?
Stored on a chip on a part of computer motherboard.
Set of instructions that run to help load the OS.

Motherboard:
Contains all the components with connectors.

BIOS:

Functions of BIOS:
CMOS, BIOS together handle a rudimentary.
Handle system set up process including driver loading and OS booting.

Rudimentary:
Limited to basic principles.

CMOS:
Small battery on system board.
Settings in a computer such as date, time, configuration of hard drive etc in such a way that when computer is switched off such settings are maintained.

BIOS driver:
Low level drivers that give the computer basic operational control over your computer's hardware.

Booting:
Set of operations that loads and hence starts OS, starting from the point when user switches on power button.

Configuration of BIOS:
Setup utility.
Reprogramming.

Setup utility:
Early BIOS does not have a boot device selection.
In that time if we want to boot CPU has to be opened .
At present no need of opening for booting.
We can select options.

Reprogramming:
Contents can be replaced and modified.

Modes while Booting:
Safe mode.
Safe mode with networking.
Normal mode.

Normal mode:
Normal window.

Safe mode:
Try to determine what is causing it to not function properly.
Appears large icon than normal mode.

Safe mode with networking:
It has extra capability with network.

How can we go into safe mode if their is no problem in windows?
Shift + Restart.

How to access BIOS?
Open settings.
 Select update and security.
Select restart now.
Trouble shooting.
Advance option.
Select UEFI firmware if there else start up.
After restarting you will get boot options.

UEFI firmware:
Designed to replace BIOS.

What is the difference between UEFI firmware and BIOS?
BIOS uses 32 bit entries.
UEFI uses 64 bit entries.

Firmware:
Permanent software programmed into read only memory.

Advantages:
More control over one's own computer.

Disadvantages:
Boots 16 bit real mode.
Not fastest.
