Skewing

Skew:
Suddenly change in direction or position.

Normal distribution:
Skewness is zero.

Positive skew:

Negative skew:

Mean:
Average of the data.

Median:
For odd data middle no.
For even data there is no single middle no so mean of two middle no's.

Mode:
Most repeated no.

How to calculate skewness?
Skewness = (3(Mean - Median))/Standard deviation.

Standard deviation:
Measure that is used to quantify amount of variation of data values.

Quantify:
Measure of quantity.

Example for calculating skewness:
Step 1 :
Given data.
2, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 7, 9.
Step 2 :
Mean.
(2+4+4+4+5+5+7+9)/8 =5.
Step 3 :
Median.
(4+5)/2= 4.5
Step 4 :
Mode.
0.
Step 5 :
Standard deviation.
(2-5)^2 = 9, (4-5)^2 = 1, (4-5)^2 = 1, (4-5)^2 = 1, (5-5)^2 = 0, (5-5)^2 = 0, (7-5)^2 = 4, (9-5)^2 = 16.
sqrt((9+1+1+1+0+0+4+16)/8) = 2.
Step 6 :
Skewing
3(5-4.5)/2 = 0.75.
Positive skew.
